The adjustments for the NP's two speeds are different for the 1.5 and 1.96 TC's. You can't apply the Military manual (TM-1808MB) to the 1.96 or NP200. Not sure which M manual you are using as a reference, but applying any inch pounds to preload will result in the TC bearings getting hot, producing friction and stopping you on the road.

Driven shaft and intermediate shaft bearing adjustment is achieved by:

1. Clean and dry bearings - DO NOT OIL BEFORE ADJUSTMENT. Clean in gas or solvent or paint thinner, rinse in clean liquid, then let air dry (NO COMPRESSED AIR. YOU DON'T WANT TO SPIN THEM DRY)

2. Adjust bearings until they turn freely with no end play. Once this is achieved, then oil.
