rarley do I see any rubber in the old stuff. multiple layers of weave of different configuration then it is coated in something to make it water resistant. I dont even think my NOS armored 00 WC battery cable has rubber except for on the ends. sure you coudl get something more medern I suppose that is even better than plastic or stock but the stock stuff is probably the least expensive way to get quality. you can buy your own roles of stock type wire and build your own from that.
