I helped out a neighbor a while ago. Chevy SB with cracked flex plate. He cleaned the gunky parts with some kind of Citrus based de-greaser. Worked real fine.
Cleaning is not the problem. Here inner city Southern California, getting rid of the old stuff is. I can't just dump it out back. Next time I get into greasy work, I'll have to buy the citrus stuff.
