Bubba...
The reason the trucks sell for the prices they sell for is because it takes hundreds & hundreds of hours to restore one...never mind materials. Most experts feel an average auto restoration takes upwards of 1000 hours to complete. I attached a good article for you to read below.
The people paying the price for fully restored trucks are actually saving money. While guys like us bust our butts, break our fingers & break the bank restoring them...they simply pay us $.75 on the dollar when we're finished & drive off into the sunset. Do we have to sell them? Often yes. You see restoring cars & trucks is a disease. For me & many others...although driving the trucks is great fun...restoring them is our passion. So much so we're willing to take a loss on them & in fact right now I'm doing a mechanical restoration for free to feed the disease :)
It's nothing about rarity...simply supply & demand. If there were hundreds of fully restored trucks for sale, the price would go down sharply on them. Since I've never seen more than one ore two properly restored trucks for sale at any one time, prices stay at a reasonable level.
If you took a 76 Ford F100 into a shop & told them you wanted a full restoration every nut & bolt...you're not getting out of there under $50K...I assure you.
So is $35K really unreasonable for a PW?
The general population thinks not.
