brake light switch

I am trying to test the brake light switch on the '49 PW. I can pump the pedal and get it solid, but there is air that needs to be bled out. Is it likely the switch will not work until the brakes are bled? Or would it matter that there is air in the lines? I'm really hoping to not have to replace the switch. You need noodle arms to work on that thing. Thanks, JH
