rear shock brackets/mounts

I have seen a lot of discussion about rear shocks. By some of these comments, I get the impression they are rare. I have owned at least 3 complete, driveable trucks, including the one I recently bought, and 3 other parts trucks. Every one of them has had factory shock brackets in the rear. These have all been in the 1946 to 1950 range. How can they be all that rare? JH
