Rob, NP540 was optional in D400-D600 and W500 and standard in D700 and maybe some others (Cab over). Most truck 318 bells were drilled and tapped for 3spd, NP420/435 and 540 which used 3 of the same holes as the 4spds. Put it in 5th (r-down) and if the the input rotates the same as the output it is direct. An OD 540 has 4th and 5th position swapped. 5th (r-up) is OD. Then the output would be .85 or .73 of the input rotation. Input shaft is usually 1.38 10 spline and .75 pilot shaft. Hard to find though. G-Man
