Are there any “tell-tale signs” that someone has switched a ’47 from 6-volt pos. ground to 6 v. negative ground?!? I mean besides looking at the battery cables, if they were to switch it, is there a right way and a wrong way to do that? Could this be done correctly without hurting the rest of the wiring/gauges/etc.?

I ask because I’ve started working on my truck and taking the leads off the old battery I noticed that the positive goes to the starter, negative is ground. At first that didn’t even register... but as I lifted the battery out I thought, “Wait a minute...”

After checking leads and posts again – sure enough, it was hooked up as negative ground. My only thoughts, besides someone NOT knowing what they were doing, was the fact that it belonged to our Rural Electric Power Company and it had a Motorola two-way radio in it back-in-the-day. I thought maybe they switched it so the radio was wired correctly? (Why else would someone change it to negative ground?) It looks like - to us uninformed individuals - that someone just switched the cables... would that have messed up anything else? I mean – this truck was taken out of service for SOME reason, maybe it had a bad electrical problem and quit running! : )
