That truck's from my least-favorite time period -- after the smog laws but before electronic fuel injection and computerized engine controls. They did it all with a rat's nest of vacuum hoses, vacuum powered actuators, and very complicated carburetors. I've given up working on those systems -- too many rubber parts to crack and go bad and too much interaction between all the sensors and actuators that no normal person can ever figure out. To make it worse, by now there's usually been someone along the way whose buddy convinced him he could "just rip it all out", so they started ripping until it ran even worse than before and then gave up on it.
