Hi Dave, I had the exact same problem when I restored my WC-63. I could not find a cable. I tried the solid rod, no luck. I took a look at the old cable. Heres what I did. The old cable is crimped into the yolks. Cut away what is left of the old cable where it is crimped into the yolk. Then place the barrel end of the yolk in the chuck of a lathe and and with a drill bit in the tailstock drill through the yolk end. It could be a little tricky because once you break through into the cable strands you could snag the drill bit. Just go slow. Once all strands of the cable are out of the crimped end drill the hole clean and to size. I believe it was a 3/16" cable. I purchased some aircraft cable from a chain and cable supplier in my area. Cut the cable to length and solder it into the prepared yolks. Worked great for me. Send me an e-mail (rjones820@comcast.net) if you have any questions.
