Truck #984 (early 1946 WDX)continues to educate me. The truck originally came with the hand brake cable instead of the later rod. I thought I could swap in a rod for the frayed cable. However, tonight I noticed a difference in the transfer case crossmembers. The later crossmembers (after Detroit serial number 83919836) have an arched lip on the rear flange of the crossmember to accomodate the rod. The WDX has a straight lip on the crossmember. I tried a spare rod and it won't fit.

VPWs is out of the cables. Their catalog says the rod will work, but that's not my experience. Anybody dealt with this before?
