They built a couple of things into it here that mean it won't worry us old truck / car people.

Vehicle handed in has to be more than ten years old, and has to have been registered in your name for 12 months and road legal taxes, tests, that sort of stuff. This gets you £200, about $2800, off a new car.

Of course if you have cash in hand and walk into any dealers here with it in your paw you can pretty much get that without handing anything in, but the point I'm making is that, as it is currently set up, it isn't doing us harm.

No rules about having to buy UK-built, I don't think you even have to buy fuel-efficient, but if you buy a new diesel Smart car here the road taxes for a year are zero, and if it is for business use you get 100% tax writedown in the first year.

All this will have zero effect on my Dodges, they will stay in the garage, won't be eligible for junking, still wont see any use, but that's because of fuel cost really.
