get an inexpensive multi tester, volts, ohms
need to check the voltage at the ign switch,
then at the coil.
also need to check the other lead that comes out of the coil & goes into the distributor to the points.
use the ohm function to check for grounds
it is not uncommon for the wire insulation to
get frayed and then ground out.
the condenser could also be the culprit
