The original pins were just one side of the hinge, rolled into a small tube shape. It's one of the bad pieces of engineering on the FFPWs, it's only the roll that keeps the two pieces from sliding apart. Common to fatigue the roll.
If you do replace the hinge, if you can find one, use some seam sealer when you rivet it together. Another lapse in the design, water runs through the seams, and leads to puddles in the spark plug depressions in the head. And rust.
