I agree the fuseable link is a good possibility. I had same type of problem with my '73. My problem was with the alternator wire that runs into the cab, to the ammeter, and then on to the battery. The bulkhead connector where the wiring harness passes through the firewall was corroded and finally quit making connection. This turned out to be the reason my headlights would be dim at idle also. I drilled out the connector in the bulkhead fitting, passed the wire through the new hole, and made a new connection with a wire nut. The wiring harness is no longer a plug in deal but how ofter do you take the harness apart anyway. Good luck.
