If it has good front end sheetmetal and a rust free cab it is worth more than $500. You can part it and use the money for what you need.

The engine can be used in a civilian application, although ther are minor differences for fording, crankcase ventilation, how the oil filler mounts (it's bolted on the military block, pressed into the civilian block). There are folks who have civilian engines in their M37's who would like to swap. The hubs are the same, and I think the brake drums are too. My understanding is the differentials will interchange, though they may not be exact matches. The M37 uses 5.83 gears. I also understand the transfer case is the same as the WDX/WM300 and the trans is the same as the later WM300's. It has helical gears instead of straight gears.

None of the wiring is the same, nor does any sheetmetal interchange. Springs are different too.
