The M37B1 spare tire was on a swing-out mount parallel to the driver's side door. Not very convenient, and it does add some weight to that side of the truck. The weight is somewhat offset by the batteries and a 5-gallon fuel can on the other side. Another thing that may help is that most of the newer 9.00-16 NDT tires are a lot lighter in weight than some original NDTs, due to much thinner sidewalls. They're still 8-ply rated, but lighter. Another thing you can do to even the weight is to carry your toolbox, chains, etc. in the right-side storage box under the bed. All in all, this should even out the weight pretty well. Don't forget that a snorkel kit also adds weight to the right side (although a fender-mount heater does add a bit to the left side). You should be able to find the spare tire mounting bracket, hinge, and release lever around. A lot of people removed them because they weren't convenient, so there should be some available. In fact, I think I saw a lever advertised in the last issue of Military Vehicles Magazine. The spinner may be the hardest part to find. It looks like half of a giant kid's jack toy, with three prongs with spherical ends on them.
