I've got an M37 with a Chevy 400 SB and a TH400. Stock transfer case is fine. Conversion was done by previous owner, who did snap an axle or 2 spiinning tires. Replaced shafts with units from Strange Engineering-- no problems.
Underhood space will be your challenge.
