A New Process 205 can be set up with an offset rear (along with the front) output. Your axles shafts will be at risk; the differentials themselves are strong enough. 4.89s help to an extent (about 16% less torque) protect the half-shafts. A bulletproof big block installation would be Dana 70 rear axle and dana 60 or 70 in front (talk to Tim Peterson about that). actually, the M37 transfer case has the same guts as the famous NP205 and therefore should be strong enough, if your conversion can handle a divorced transfer case. I suspect there is enough room for a 454 but it will be tight, both in length and width. My experience with M37 conversions is a Hercules/Clark 5spd.
