I have an Air Force towing tractor with a 230. When I got it, it had a busted piston in #1 with a thrown rod & busted wall. Governor had been disabled. Successfully sleeved it & use it to pull boats. It had cast Iron pistons which I replaced with aluminum. I once had a '48 Dodge school bus bought with a bad crank. I was told at the time that 230 cranks were "soft" but later found out they are forged. Probably these failures were caused by overspeed, low oil, or dirty oil. You do have to keep in mind the piston speed with that long stroke. Put in cheap-o crank kit & bus was fine. Just don't try to cruise all day at 4000rpm.
