Originally there was a piece of spring steel with
a bracket that attached to the lower windshield frame.
This piece has a hole in it about every inch and a half
or so. Under the dash there was a star-type mechanism
driven by a handle mounted on the dash. When you turned
the handle, the teeth on the star would mesh with the
holes in the spring steel (at least in design). These
units were not well made and tend to fail well before
the truck. Dave Butler at Vintage PWs sells new mechanisms
but I don't know if he has the spring steel pieces.
Given enough time, money, and energy, anything is possible.
