I would tend to agree with most of the comments mentioned if you are considering only gas power.
However, if you can find a diesel version MB494, you will be very impressed. Although it is still
not a race horse, the utility far exceeds that of a Power Wagon. I used to run this type for the
Bureau of Land Management as a fire truck. Ours had a small pump package and a small dozer blade on
the front with a 20 speed transmission and diff-lock. Needless to say, we could go places that the
M-37 style fire trucks could not go and we took a blade and about 200 more gallons of water. A perfect
example of how effective these rigs are off road, I drove one into a fire once and it was the only truck
on the fire; everyone else parked their rigs and flew in. If you
are on a tight budget, as I am, the Power Wagon is probably the only realistic choice. However,
if $10,000 to $20,000 is not out of line, a unimog is a very well engineered vehicle. I am always
