From what I have always understood, it is actually the "__th Annual International Vintage Dodge Power Rally". Which would imply that all enthusiasts, world over, are welcome. As opposed to only those from the U.S.A. or any region thereof.
But then it is kind of like the Miss Universe thing. How come no ladies from other solar systems ever get invited to attend?
Or how about the whole American League - National League thing? Don't they play teams from Canada?
I simply call them the VPW Rally, or the Iowa Rally, or the Family Reunion, whatever happens to come to mind at the moment.
Whatever the organizers want to call the event is okay with me. I don't think they intenionally imply any illusions of being better. They were the first, for better or worse, so let them call themselves whatever they want. I don't think there are any liscensing issues with the name.
However one feels about the Rally founders, organizers, sponsers, promoters, or committee is really all just a moot point. It is the people who travel to be there with other people with the same interests who make it what it is. It is all about the people. I have had good Rally years and bad Rally years. Looking back, each was on account of my own attitude, not due to anyone else's fault or credit.
What keeps me going to this one every year, but not to any other's is logistics. I live only 100 miles away. I have no way to haul my trucks, so any event over a day's drive by Power-Wagon is strictly out of the question until I retire.
