Burned out lights revisited

Thanks for your earlier help, guys. Again, all my lights went out at once, while at max electrical load (high beams on, I stepped on the brake pedal), now no lights work. I bought the alternator new from VPW, with the 12V Conversion kit, I was told it was an internally regulated GM- type alternator, and that's all I should need. It is putting out 15.25V, measured at the battery, at idle. I was also told by local mechanics that that charge level should not damage my yellow Optima deep cycle battery, and that this battery should be fine with this level of charging, since it's a dry-cell.
1) Should I send back the alternator, or have it fixed locally?
2) Have others had trouble with their original light switches after the 12V conversion?
Thank you for any help!
