I'm seeing surplus .50 BMG in the $3/round range these days. It spiked upwards of $5 when Talon shut down, but has been coming down some. Haven't bought any "plinker" 9mm lately as I've been focusing on my .45, so haven't been pricing any. I see an ad in "Gun News" from a guy with 1000 rounds of Norinco 9mm FMJ for $380, so that's probably towards the low end these days.

I could be wrong, but my feeling is that the ammo shortage, especially of popular handgun rounds, truly is just temporary due to panic buying and military demand. Unless more gun control starts working its way through congress, people will calm down and supplies will catch up. Commodity prices are down to half of last summer, roughly, so ammo would be cheaper too if it wasn't for the extra demand. If I wanted to practice a lot now, I would just focus on more careful shooting and make every shot count, like you would in real life. Gone are the days of ventilating old appliances with $.10/round surplus ammo.
