The issue is that electrical current from trolley rails is making its way underground to metallic utilities (old iron sewer lines, galvanized conduit, DIP water lines) and causing electrolysis. To prevent this, Seattle Public Utilities asked us to develop a concrete that would not conduct electricity yet still meet their strict demands for next day driveability, adequate slump, cost, and environmentally friendliness.


All these factors rolled into one mix has never been done before. It was tried once, and we discovered a major flaw. Florida DOT will be hearing from us about their soon-to-break concrete that they thought was so good.
