The internal combustion engine isn't going anywhere any time soon. Luckily most of our vehicles are grandfathered into the laws (CAFE standards only apply to manufacturers).

However if you had to meet newer requirments it would probably be much easier to try and re-power the vehicle using a newer doner car than to do a one-off conversion.

If you did want an electric PW mouting the motor/gearbox wouldn't be the problem, it would be mounting and wiring all the batteries and electronics. It would be a neat project though.

I'm staying away from the political side of this.
