That's interesting. I've never known brass to get brittle unless it was outdoors and exposed to salt air, which causes it to become porous (maybe the zinc leaches out). The only leaky brass floats I've seen had little pinholes in the solder, not cracked brass. I wonder what happened. I agree it's not worth repairing that one. I'll be watching to see what others come up with as a source for new replacements.
