Check you have some slack in the master cylinder pushrod to give you some free pedal travel. It sounds like yesterday it didn't 'return' for some reason. Might be one of the pistons is coming right out to the end of a wheel cylinder too.
The long tern solution is a by-the-book item by item check, of course.
