Yes, and 40 hours of work per week makes for a pretty good balance. I'm just saying that there are two ends to the equation, and sometimes it's easier to reduce expenses than to increase income, if one doesn't want to have to work more than 40 hours/week.
I once knew a man who supported himself by picking huckleberries. He'd work hard for one month picking, and then just bum around the rest of the year. He lived cheap and enjoyed his freedom. We all have choices.
The other thing to keep in mind is if our how political and economic system falls apart, most of us are going to have to work a lot more than 40 hours per week AND we'll have to make do with less fun stuff. Best try to hold the current system together even if that means cutting back a little bit. 5 years from now, I'd rather have 80% of my current "quality of life" than hold out for 100% and end up with 10%. Others might rather fight to keep it all. That's their choice.
