I was able to spend time working on my truck today. I dropped the engine pan in preperation to start and run the engine. It is a replacement rebuild with CA tag, engine cast date 1959. No rust visable from the lower end or blue bearing caps! There was not a lot of sludge in the bottom of the pan either.

I was also looking it over to find if there were any more differences to include on Clints list. What I found were the following,

Cab #4312-161 Earliest in the registry including the Detroit builds.

Military axles (5.83's) with the tag to use only one cover gasket?

Stamped steel transfer case mounts (not cast) with no rubber isolators similar to a 6X6, but 1.96 PW transfer case.

Forward leaf spring rear perches stamped and welded together, not cast.

Transmission had yoke bracket on rear output used for emergency brake drum which is mounted on transcase.

Six blade engine cooling fan and no radiator shroud.

Long military horn.

Large prepunched firewall hole under drivers rod support unpunched, by volt regulator.

No rear view mirror or pre drilled holes

Nice cover over windshield wiper motor location on passenger side cab. No passenger wiper hole drilled.

Glove box door has only 2 riveted tags instead of the normal 3

Inside military door handles and window crank handles.

Military steering wheel with metal spokes.

I did take photos of all this but need to sign up for hosting before I can link them, which I hope to do soon. I am sure there will be more to include latter.
