Having nine kids I have met a lot of school Principles , the last one at the public level became a close friend of mine .I always called him by his first name , but added sir in respect of his position he held . Sir Eric as I call him was getting ready to retire, when I would see him at the school , he was always mentioning the fact he was retiring ,soon . His dream was this boat a big boat 35 feet long . The boat in his pictures looked to be in pretty tough shape , a big project to say the least one that would take him many, many years .Every time I would see Sir Eric it was boat talk, and his plans .We would talk at length about the hull the interior the engines and so on .Well Sir Eric retired last year I ran in to him at the supermarket last week , I asked how was the progress on the boat .He wasn’t so hot on the boat any more at least not as much as he had , when he was a principle .He admitted to puttering here and there but some how his passion slowed .On the way home I was thinking ,it wasn’t the boat it was the dream . The dream that carried him through the cold mornings in the school yard , the days he had to put up with irate parents ,the endless phone calls ,answering to his superiors ,managing his staff ,and his students and the stress of day to day living in his life . It was the dream ,were he could run for cover ,think while siting idly ,he could imagine sailing off to distant shores ,when the pressure was on , the boat was of major significance in his life . Its not that Sir Eric has lost that much interest in his dream he just dosen’t need too dream that much now ~ Copey
