I have been following this in some of the trade magazines. It is another example of the Cheepnamen re-engineering something as cheaply as possible without considering the consequences. In the US (and Europe), burning low sulphur coal can produce a by product that is chemically identical to gypsum. The Cheepnese took this to include high sulphur coal, which they burn 'cause it's cheaper and they have a lot of it. The high sulphur coal byproduct contains sulphur compounds, that when moistened create sulphuric acid, hydrogen sulphide and other nasty stuff. Not only does the cheepnese drywall give off hydrogen sulphide (rotten egg smell, along with being toxic), it also creates very corrosive compounds of acid that corrodes ductwork, piping, steel studs, etc.

On the plus side, the lawyers have already started a class action law suit against the manufacturers.

After the cost of transportation, how much cheaper is this drywall that that made in the US?

Sorry for the rant.

Paul
