The model is being built in 3D-Studio. The measurements are taken with calipers, steel rulers, dividers, mic's, and so on. Accuracy is plus/minus .005 for some parts (machined, etc.), to 0.05 for rought parts like castings. The really nice thing about this modeling program is that I can manipulate the lighting, materials, colors, etc. at will, so its a really dynamic model that can easily be changed. For example, if I wanted a 3D cutaway of the truck in USAF Strat-Blue with different unit markings, sans-winch with a straight bumper, and from a different view, no problem. My computer might take an hour or so to render the final image, but the actual changes would take less than 10-minutes. The main gole is to be able to render a very high quality complete 3D cutaway of the truck fully assembled. Now I just need to find a FFPW and do the same thing!
