I have been measuring my spare M37 rear axle housing and was wondering how much work it would take to turn it into a centered rear PW housing. The short side needs 7" added to it and the long side needs 4.25" removed from it to fit the 36 1/4" WC axles. The tubes are 3 1/2 od by about 1/4" wall which is pretty standard. The tubes appear to be seam welded and I'm not sure if they are butt welded to the center section. Has anyone tried to fabricate a centered axle housing from the M37 style?. I would machine up some 3.5" thick wall piping to press inside the existing tubing and then align it up with a rod thru the spindles. Then weld up the joints and replace the spring pads in the right spots. Sounds pretty simple eh?... but has anyone gots some tricks or experiences doing this?. Terry
