It appears that some people have used plasma cutters with mixed results on glass material.

from what i've read, you need to have a piece of metal *below* the glass material that you are cutting, which i assume you ground too, but i guess this will only work on thin pieces of glass?

This may be worth some investigation if someone has old 'smokey' glass and a plasma cutter. -- just remember, safety first -- molten glass travelling at 6km/s would leave quite a mark on skin.
