if you have to have a rear mounted spare, i would look at the spare tire mount on the current h2 hummers. very stout and they swing nicely. they could be easily modded to whatever bumper you want. i know you didn't want to mount the spare inside, but i would reconsider mounting it in the rear on the drivers side. use a stock rim, with the smallest tire, like a 7.00 16, to get you home in the case of a flat. have a cover made for it that lets you put your gloves & jumper cables in the center. unless you are going cross country, you will never likely encounter a flat that would require a full size replacement. also, consider 1 custom one piece rim from stockton wheel. a plain metal rim with a radial spare is your lightest replacement and your best bet to hold air over a long time. a smaller radial mounted under the truck becomes more feasible if its small enough.
