On a full flow system, the two would need to be connected, or you'll get no flow at all. So, if you make an aluminum block off plate, you'll need to mill a slot in it for the oil to flow from one to the other. You could drill shallow holes, and then use a die grinder to connect them. Or use a jig to hold a router on track, and shallow cuts, only about 1/16" deep. Make the slot plenty big and deep, don't oil starve the engine.

Or make the block off plate with pipe thread holes in it, add nipples, some special rubber hose, and a remote spin-on filter mount. The remote mount costs about $18.
