junior, you can run a petronix in a 6 volt app + or neg ground and their application in a 6v system might even yield more benefits in a 12v truck. the benefits are reduced maint, parts reduction (no points or condensers & possibly no more ballast) improved performance and easier starting. if you believe in modern electronics vs solid state & mechanical devices, you will perceive a benefit. if you are anti technology a purist or a traditionalist, it might not be for you. the system relies on magnetism and electronic componetry vs points and condensers. points rub and therefore wear, but electronic ignitions do not make any mechanical contact. if you are more comfortable carrying a spare set of points and a matchbook and are 'old school' go for it. lots of guys like to tell stories about roadside point changes in the middle of the night - that was before my time. if you believe that modern car electronics are reliable, its a good update. points are cheap, if they were better they would still be in use. whenever i have installed them in my trucks, they have made a positive difference. never had one fail and have never had to use the old parts i keep in the glovebox either.
