This 1951 M37 was one of two trucks released by the US government to the Town of Glastonbury Connecticut for use as brush trucks in their volunteer fire department.

It was de-milled by the Public Works garage and lovingly made into a brush truck complete with stainless steel water tank (they spared no expense with tax payer dollars). In typical volunteer zeal, they overloaded the truck weight-wise and the DMV eventually condemned them as unsafe when compared to the stock M37 braking capacity. The vehicles enjoyed low mileage lives, both in their military and FD lives. I bought this truck in a town auction. Its sister went to the Town of Marlborough Connecticut and is still in use I believe. (The town replaced these M37’s with overloaded F-350 utility body trucks that are referred to as “parade trucks” by the members of the FD- not suitable for going off road like these beasts.)

I re-milled the truck and bought a spare parts truck (1952 M37 arctic truck-complete with heater) from the town of Marlborough that was a former East Longmeadow Massachusetts rescue vehicle. That parts truck could easily be a runner. I swapped some great aggressive tires off that truck to my 1951. The town public works shop gave me a NOS radiator still in wood box and I was very active for years in acquiring NOS parts, even getting a bumper that I never used, when those parts were plentiful in the 90’s. I have several extra wheels and tires in addition to the ones on the parts truck.

I have not driven the truck in years and the dual 12 volt batteries are dead. I have always garaged the 1951 and it is very nice. We repainted it with the right paint. It has not been “marked” with the Mil markings as I couldn’t bear to mess up the nice paint job.

I have too many vehicles both personally and at our family farm and it is time to free up this space in my barn so my wife’s 1968 one owner Mustang can join her 2005 GT in the barn (toy box!!) at our house.

I have all the town’s paperwork plus manuals and years of Power Wagon Advertisers and military vehicle magazines that I will throw in to the bargain.

I will only sell the 2 trucks and parts as a package as they would be no good to me or you if separated. The vehicle will run- I guarantee it -but will need fresh batteries and gas, etc. Feel free to come and test it if you don’t believe me. Many people know this truck – including Joe Cimoch- as we used to sponsor PW rally’s at our farm until the farm just got too busy and my kids got older and I became a full time sports event driver.

The price is a reasonable $15,000 cash for all as is, or of course best offer.

I am very quick at responding to emails at george.m.purtill@snet.net and you can always try my cell 860-918-5442.
