I managed to look down along the bottom side of the lever to where the rod from the diaphragm attaches, and it looks like the rod goes up through a hole in the lever. On all the others I've seen, the rod has a slot in the end of it that fits over a hook at the end of the lever. This is a whole different scheme. I've tried turning the rod slightly each time I try to get it out, but nothing works. I hope I don't have to remove the pivot pin from the rod, because it's driven in blind and I'd have to drill a hole in the housing to put a punch in to push it back out. At this point, I probably should have just tossed it, saved the $50 for the rebuild kit and put in a modern non-rebuildable one, or an old one I have that's an entirely different style. Part of the reason to keep the Carter is so I don't have to make new fuel lines (they're rigid) and I don't have to change the heat shield around, since it's very different on this one. The Carter pump mounts "low", with all the works being well below the mounting hole, whereas the others are mostly at or above the mounting hole.
