Hey Spence, I noticed something about your bed layout that seems not right. Your picture shows adjacent consecutive bed strips bolted to the same lip (front or rear) of the hat channels.
I am not as familiar with the second and third series beds, but I do know this:
On the first series beds, every other consecutive bed strip was bolted to the opposite side of the hat channel. In other words, if the first center strip was bolted to the front lip of the hat channel, the adjecent (second) strip was bolted to the rear lip. Thus, the weight load of the boards was evenly distributed along the entire length of the hat channel by staggering the bolts.
