Mike,
That's true to a certain extent & certainly lots of Power Wagon/Farm equipment collectors love to get their hands on nice original trucks & tractors...very few of them are willing to pay a premium for an original truck...in fact I'd say the opposite is true.
Look at Wilbur for example....very few nicer original trucks out there...sold for $12K.
Today it would sell around $8K.
Truth is...the collectors that go nuts for a rare Mustang or a prototype Corvette...they could care less about the numbers on a Dodge Power Wagon. It's been proven over & over...the trucks that have sold for the most money...I can't think of a single one that even had the original engine still in it. Look at my blue 46 WDX...sold for something like $37K to a well known Mopar collector....The engine is an industrial 230, the bed was made in Canada, the cab roof is original but the rest of the cab is off a 1947 WDX...etc, etc.
Do you think it would have sold for more with body tag number 03 & an original T137? Nope.
Collectors don't care.
Some on this forum care but those that care aren't the ones putting up the big bucks.
If I bought a 1967 L88 Corvette...you bet I want the numbers matching engine in it.
If I go buy a 50's Tucker Snowcat...I couldn't care less & that's basically what you're dealing with here.
That's my Canuck opinion from experience anyway :)
