There was no CARC in '52. The CARC probably applied no earlier than 1980, and in my experience with no real prep to the old OD semigloss. The desert camo CARC they put on for desert storm tends to be especially badly done. Bottom line is if you want your new paint job to be good for long, the CARC needs to come off. Usually by now it's peeling off on its own in many areas. At least poke around and see how well stuck it is. Maybe you got the one good CARC paint job. My trucks and trailers are all peeling in a big way. The original OD paint seems to always be well stuck except where there's rust, but it would need to really be roughed up to have new paint stick to it better than the CARC did.
