It was "Federated" #206-180. I assume "180" is the temperature. No big rubber ring and no brass on it. The Sno-Cat has the kind of thermostat housing that points up and forward rather than off to the passenger side, since the radiator is mounted high on that machine. There's a short 90 degree bypass hose between the thermostat housing and the water pump. The thermostat pocket inside the housing looks just like on the normal housings, with two machined surfaces, one above and one below the bypass outlet. The way I'm seeing it, the "new" thermostat will not cut off the bypass when it's open, which means less of the hot water will go to the radiator than with the old style thermostat. Since my problem is with it not heating up, rather than with it overheating, I think this should be okay (it's a sno-cat, after all), but if I have any overheating problems, I'll put my NOS brass 160 degree thermostat in.

My bigger problem now is whatever's blown in the rear end. That's going to be a pile of work, and I can't take it anywhere except around town on the flats until I fix it. I can't even get it out of the snow that's piled around it until I muck out around the rear tracks. It's like one of those dogs with a paralyzed rear end, trying to drag itself around by its front legs.
