Mark. A "couple of inches" is more than a "hair". :) Many years ago, much younger and more adventurous, I lifted a Ford 4x4 by lengthening the spring u-bolts (welded bolts to them to make them longer) and slipping a steel block in between the top of the spring perch and the bottom of the springs. This resulted in the phenomenon known as "bump-steering" which really presented some excitement when crossing railroad tracks or washboard roads at any speed. In an effort to solve this we welded a section of pipe into the drag link to "center" it back up. (Really stupid) Needless to say, I survived and so did those who were on the road in my vicinity, but I would not do it again. If you are serious about this, find a good spring shop and have them build a spring leaf or two that will give you the height you want, along with longer u-bolts. Or go to a factory lift kit which you should be able to buy at parts stores or tire stores. JH
