Ceramic carb filter?

Anybody have any idea what this is? I've never seen such a thing. Is it a fuel inlet filter? I thought they were porous bronze, and I don't remember ever seeing one in a Carter carburetor anyway. The description is:

"Ceramic carburetor filter for Dodge Power Wagon 1-ton civilian truck.

It fits the early square top Carter carburetors

New in original box. Made by Carter Carburetor Division
