They are not as strong as the 9&5/8 ring gear. You can interchange between the two, but you'll need Zentmyer's power train interchanges in order to perform the required modifications to differential carrier. I would look for 4.89's for the M37 or if you want better gearing, a set of 4.30's, or 4.10's or 3.91's for your 8&3/4, just keep in mind, it will be a weaker unit.
