Pauline: I think you meant to say left wing extremist group. I am too tired to get prolix on this topic. However, if the Democrats did not believe that proposing and voting for gun laws garnered them votes they wouldn't spend so much time and money on it and the NRA wouldn't be one of their favorite targets. Just to show that the stupidity isn't limited to Democrats NY Mayor Guiliana (sp?) is one of the people behind the movenent to prevent the NRA from opening a restraunt in Times Square. Along with Chuckie Schumer, Hillary and I think Pataki (sp?). Since you obviously understand that more gun control laws will do nothing but rob us of our 2nd amendment rights, who do you think will stop Al Gore, Chuckie Schumer, Dick Durbin, Sarah Brady and the rest of the DEMOCRATS? The congressional Republicans? Fat chance! The problem is people are not thinking they are being manipulated emotionally by the Democrats and the media. W is in Chicago today and tommorow to pick up an endorsement from the Fraternal Orded of Police and to be on Oprah tommorow. The lead the story on my talk radio station said that some (about 10) people were protesting Bush because he signed a law that would "allows people to carry concealed handguns into churches, amusement parks and hospitals". They could have said that W allowed the law abiding citizens of Texas to carry concealed weapons for self defense if they met the requirements of the law. But the media hasn't been too objective for about 40 years now. In fact 90+% of washington reporters voted for Clinton in '92 & '96. I personally am very happy with Chalreton Heston. He has membership heading towards an all time high when we need it the most. He has been very effective and I will continue to vote for him as long as the board lets him run. He also has an admirable recond on civil rights dating back to the late '50s. I don't quite understand how you can say that you don't like the fact that they have gotten into "politicing". How else do you prevent politicians from passing laws that you disagree with other than getting people who support your position elected? They are not a partisan group, it is just a FACT that most, but not all, Democrats are anti-gun. And conversely not all Republicans are pro-gun. I voted for a Democrat in our last gubernarorial race since he was less anti-gun. Of course he lost because Illinois has a habit of electing liberal Republicans for Governor. As far as George H. Bush (W is not technically a JR.) is concerned I never liked him. He did break bad on the NRA in '93 after the "jack booted thug" fund raising letter flap. The Gipper wasn't crazy about him either and endorsed him only reluctantly. Yes I will pay for your membership in 3 months, no matter what happens the anti-gunners never say die and keep chipping away little by little. Like the "assualt weapon" ban and high capacity magazine ban, we must be always vigilant. I have and will pay for anybody's NRA membership anytime, if they are a legitimate gun owners. Are you the WC restoring gal in AZ? Sorry, it looks like I got too prolix anyhow. Regards, Andy Tierney P.S. They dropped the "chicago" out of my e-mail adress last week so the one I posted now will work.
