Having a problem with my alternator not charging the battery. I am building the wiring harness from scratch. The multimeter says that the alt is putting out 12.45 volts to the "Batt" terminial on the alt but my truck keeps running the battery down. My #2 wire, the big red one, goes to the original ammeter. The #1 wire goes to the "ign" post on the new 3 position starter switch. The "batt" wire goes to the positive terminial on the battery. I have a number of other wires coming off my starter switch, A green wire goes from the center "S" on the back of the switch to the 4-post relay that engages the starter. A white wire goes from the "ign" on the back of the starter switch through the ballast resistor to the "+" side of the coil. A blue wire goes from the "batt" on the starter switch to the positive terminial on the battery. I also have a ballast resistor bypass from the 4-post relay "I" post to the "+" side of the coil. and finally obviously a short wire from the "-" side of the coil to the distribuor. Have I left something out? The only thing I have changed from others I have converted is to swap the narrow alternator pulley with the wide one from the old 6-volt generator. Please help!!
